An essential oil is the concentrated, aromatic essence of a plant — captured from its flowers, leaves, peel, wood, resin or roots. It carries the scent of the plant in a highly concentrated form: it can take many kilograms of raw material to fill a single small bottle, which is why a few drops go a long way.
